George Mugweru is managing a MasterCard Foundation funded project that focuses on building capacity of key actors in the market, particularly financial service providers to offer vibrant, viable and scalable housing microfinance products for low- income communities in Kenya. Additionally, he is providing technical support to financial service providers in developing appropriate, affordable housing microfinance products that promote access to housing for the low-income segment.
Previously he was a Senior Financial Services Analyst at MicroSave consulting under private sector development, microfinance support and digital financial services. He specialized in market research, product development, programme evaluation and digital financial services.
Prior to joining MicroSave, George was a Senior Development Finance Officer at Faulu, Kenya. He delivered credit and saving service to mostly subsistence farmers and small scale traders in Kiambu. George was spearheaded business growth and portfolio quality in the region. In addition during Faulu transition to a deposit taking microfinance he was actively involved in the alternative delivery channels roll out i.e. point of sale, and mobile banking platform in Faulu Kenya throughout the country. George was a delivery channel ToT in multiple delivery channel and Emerge T24. He also participated in product review and Financial Education curriculum developed.
He holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Nairobi. He has working experience in Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and South Sudan. He is currently based in Nairobi
